DRACOON for Windows/Mac includes extended error logging that can be enabled as needed. If enabled, all events in DRACOON for Windows/Mac are recorded in a log file. This log file can be useful for troubleshooting and analyzing problems with DRACOON for Windows/Mac.
If DRACOON Support asks you to enable error logging in DRACOON for Windows/Mac, follow these steps:
Enable extended error logging
- Click the DRACOON icon in the notification area of the taskbar (Windows) or in the status menu of the menu bar (Mac).
- Click Preferences.
- Click the Connection tab.
- Select the Enable debug log checkbox.
- Close the Preferences window.
The extended error logging is now active. - If you have a specific problem with DRACOON for Windows/Mac, try to reproduce the problem scenario so that the problem reoccurs and all usage steps and internal operations of DRACOON for Windows/Mac can be logged. If the problem does not reoccur at first, disconnect the DRACOON drive, reconnect it, and then try to reproduce the problem once more.
Send error log to DRACOON Support
If you were asked by DRACOON Support to submit the error log of DRACOON for Windows/Mac, proceed as follows:
- First, reproduce the problem as described in step 6 above so that the problem is logged. Please make sure that the extended error logging has been activated before (see above).
- Click the DRACOON icon in the notification area of the taskbar (Windows) or in the status menu of the menu bar (Mac).
- Click Preferences.
- Click the Connection tab.
- Click the Show button.
- The error log files (file names: dracoon.log and dracoon.dmp) are displayed in File Explorer (Windows) or the Finder (Mac), respectively. If problems occurred during synchronization, one or more files with the file extension .plist (DRACOON for Windows/Mac version 4.2 or earlier) or the file dracoon.errors (DRACOON for Windows/Mac version 4.3 or later) are also listed.
- Send the files dracoon.log, dracoon.dmp, all existing files with the extension .plist, and—if it exists—the file dracoon.errors to DRACOON Support (e.g. as attachments in the ticket form).
If the problem was successfully logged, you should disable extended error logging (see next section) since error logging significantly impacts the overall performance of DRACOON for Windows/Mac.
Disable extended error logging
To turn off extended error logging for DRACOON for Windows/Mac:
- Click the DRACOON icon in the notification area of the taskbar (Windows) or in the status menu of the menu bar (Mac).
- Click Preferences.
- Click the Connection tab.
- Clear the Enable debug log checkbox.
- Close the Preferences window.
The extended error logging is now no longer active.
