Can DRACOON for Windows be run as a Windows service?

No, DRACOON for Windows cannot be run as a Windows system service.

DRACOON for Windows must run in a user context for proper operation, especially synchronization. Therefore, DRACOON for Windows can only be started after a user has logged in to Windows (and DRACOON for Windows is executed in the user context of that user).

Using DRACOON for Windows as a Windows service would also go directly against to the security concept of DRACOON, which is based on the rights of individual users. The shared use of DRACOON for Windows by different Windows users within a Windows service, who would have to jointly use a common DRACOON user account in DRACOON for Windows, would contradict the DRACOON philosophy regarding security.

If you have the requirement that you want to upload files to DRACOON on a Windows server without a Windows user being logged in (e.g. for backup automation), we recommend using duck.sh instead of DRACOON for Windows.
