About this release
Version 6.4 of the DRACOON Web App was deployed on the DRACOON cloud on June 18, 2021 and replaces the previous version 6.3.
New features
NewOptimized file key distribution after uploading to an encrypted data room
Immediately after uploading a file to an encrypted data room, the user who uploaded now automatically generates access keys for the file for up to 50 other users of the data room—only then will the upload process be marked as complete. This change ensures that more users of an encrypted data room can access new files in the room as soon as possible (even immediately).
In addition, in version 6.4 of the DRACOON Web App, the most recently uploaded file is now treated with the highest priority when generating file keys—this ensures that even when uploading a very large number of files to an encrypted data room, up to 50 file keys are generated immediately for each new file (generating any pending file keys for additional users in the data room and for other files is postponed).
Each user of an encrypted data room needs a file key for each file in the room to open the respective file. If a new file is uploaded to an encrypted data room, keys must therefore be generated for the file for each user in the room. If an encrypted data room has many users (due to large assigned groups, for example), a large number of file keys might need to be generated. The number increases accordingly if many new files are uploaded at once, for example.
Each user who already has a key for a particular file can generate file keys for other users and participate in the key distribution (this happens automatically in the background when the Web App is open or DRACOON for Windows/Mac is connected to a DRACOON drive). Therefore it is crucial that already at the beginning (immediately after the upload) as many users as possible receive a key for a new file because the further key distribution (to even more users) is thus exponentially accelerated (since everyone who has a key can participate in the key distribution).
Previously, only 2 file keys were generated by the DRACOON Web App immediately after a file was uploaded to save time—if the Web App was closed by the uploading user immediately afterward, no more file keys would be initially generated by the uploading user, and it was more likely that not all users in the room could access the new file from the beginning.
Summary: Due to the now significantly faster key generation, up to 50 file keys can now be generated after uploading a file without noticeable delay. The fact that an upload is now marked as complete only after the 50 file keys have been generated prevents the user from prematurely closing the web app before enough file keys have been generated. In addition, prioritizing the newest uploaded file during key generation ensures that sufficient file keys are initially available for each file.
NewExpiration date indicator for files
For files that have an expiration date and will thus automatically be deleted in the future, a clock icon is now displayed next to the file. When pointing to the icon, the expiration date of the file is displayed in a tooltip.
This new feature prevents users from not being aware of the expiration date of files.
Minor improvements and optimizations
This update of the DRACOON Web App includes minor user interface improvements to the Edit User dialog box: The Language of the access data email field is now hidden in scenarios where it is not needed.
Bug fixes
Version 6.4 of the DRACOON Web App contains bug fixes that resolve minor problems in the DRACOON Web App. For example, the Restore to command (to restore a previous file version to a specific folder/room) did not work in encrypted data rooms (the regular Restore command worked as expected).
