Moving files between encrypted rooms works the same way as moving between unencrypted rooms – make sure that the user has DELETE permission in the source room and CREATE permission in the target room. Moving is done with API /nodes/{node_id}/move_to.

Please note that the following move operations are not possible: unencrypted -> encrypted and encrypted -> unencrypted.

The error message indicates that the file you want to move/copy does not have a file key.

In a nutshell, the encryption works as follows:

    • Before a file is uploaded to an encrypted data room it is encrypted with a unique file key on the client side.
    • Subsequently, the file key is encrypted with the puplic key of each user that has access to the encrypted data room (also on the client side).
    • Finally, these encrypted keys are uploaded to the server.

In your case, it seems that no encrypted file key has been provided (for the user). As a result, you would be unable to encrypt the file key with the public keys of the users in the target room. As a consequence, these users would not be able to decrypt the file. To prevent this, the operation fails.

To resolve the issue, please check if the user a access to the file key for that file. Open the web app and download the file. If you can read the file successfully, then the user has access to the file key.
